National Anthem: Thank Fiji (English: God Bless Fiji, Fijian: Meda Dau Doka)

The melody of this song is from Dwelling in Beulah Land, a hymn composed by Charles Austin Miles. Michael Francis Alexander Prescott added the lyrics to this song, and was established as the national anthem when Fiji became independent in 1970. The song has English lyrics and Fijian lyrics, but the two lyrics are different and have little in common.

Fiji is a nation of Oceania and a member of the Commonwealth of the United Kingdom. The capital is Suva on Viti Levu. It is an archipelago nation located on the Fiji Islands in the South Pacific Ocean and on the island of Rotuma, a protected area 500 km north. It consists of more than 300 volcanic islands and coral reefs. Vanuatu is in the west, Tonga is in the east, and Tuvalu is in the north.
Legend has it that people started living in Fiji about 8,000 years ago when the Melanesian landed in a canoe on Cape Vuda on the west coast of Viti Levu. The oldest city in Fiji, Viseisei, was built by Lutunasobasoba. Later, the Tongans moved and were affected by Polynesian culture.
