The Cook Islands is a constitutional monarchy consisting of 24 coral atolls and volcanic islands in eastern Oceania and eastern Polynesia. Discovered by James Cook for the first time in Europe in 1770, the islands were named after him. Then, in 1858, the Kingdom of Rarotonga was founded, which became a British territory in 1888, but became a New Zealand territory in 1901.
